What The Bible Says About Love

I thought, what better day to talk about what the Bible says about love, than on the one day that we make it a point to celebrate Love!

What is Love?

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

What the Bible says about loving ourselves:

Whoever gets sense loves his own soul; he who keeps understanding will discover good. Proverbs 19:8

For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church. Ephesians 5:29

What the Bible says about loving our spouse:

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25

And so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. Titus 2:4-5

What the Bible says about loving one another :

No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:12

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

What the Bible says about loving your enemies:

But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.
Luke 6:27

But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Matthew 5:44

And most importantly, the ULTIMATE LOVE!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
