One Nation Under God

This morning we are waking up to learn who will be leading our great nation for the next four years.

Regardless of your party affiliation, how you voted, or what you think about our President, we as Christians must conduct ourselves in a way that is pleasing to God!

We need to stop the bickering that has divided our country and come together as believers to seek God’s will and guidance to help heal our nation.

The Bible tells us that we are to be respectful of our leaders:

1 Peter 2:13-17 NIV
Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 ESV
We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

Titus 3:1-2 NIV
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.

The most important thing we can do for our country is PRAY!

We should be praying for the men and women who hold office at all levels of our government, that God will speak to their hearts and guide them in their decision making.

1 Timothy 2:1-15 ESV
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, …

One of the most important things the Bible says about government is this:

2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I was reading some comments on a blog several months ago and a reader was voicing her feelings about the current administration and a guest responded with an answer that I loved so much that I saved it and I will close with it…

“Obama is not my favorite politician, but he is our leader appointed by the people through Jesus Christ. He is not destroying the nation, he is simply doing as any president has before him in preparing the nation’s (emphasize the plural) for His return.”

With that being said, we don’t need to be a nation divided,

We need to be one nation, under God!
