Funny Signs

Boy, this has been a long week for me.

I don’t know if it is because we have been working long hours on the garage or the anticipation of a 3 day weekend.

Today, I just feel like I have been “out straight” all week!

And because of the way I am feeling today, I thought I would share a little humor with you to lighten the mood.

When I am out and about and see a sign that I really like, I usually take a picture of it.

Here are some that I thought were really funny.

Have a safe and blessed weekend!

Garage Floor

We have begun the garage makeover, starting with the floor.

This is what it looked like after the Capt. got done pressure washing it.

20120829-152048.jpg

20120829-152114.jpg

Because this is a cement floor that was painted, more than once, we had to use several different products to get a good end results.

The first step was to paint the entire floor with Lockdown Bonding Primer and after that dries for at least 4 hours, we then painted on the Epoxy Seal concrete paint.

20120829-152203.jpg

Because of bad weather, we did not want to leave all of our stuff outside, so we decided to do one half at at time.

We put the bonding primer and paint on 3/4 of the floor this weekend. It is supposed to dry for 24 hours before walking on it and 5 days before putting anything heavy on it or parking a vehicle on it.

So, after letting it sit a few days, I finally did the other 1/3 of the floor yesterday.

I was so excited about how it was looking.

20120829-152323.jpg

20120829-152338.jpg

But then, when I went into the garage this morning to admire the nice clean floor, I noticed that it didn’t look as good as I thought it would.

There was a definite line where we left off from painting the first day and where I joined up to yesterday.

20120829-152424.jpg

Also, the other side of the floor looked shinier than the newly painted section.

At first I thought that it just needed to cure longer but upon further investigation, I realized that we had bought 2 different paints. The one that we had used first was a satin finish and apparently the second one wasn’t.

20120829-152514.jpg

Luckily, we have enough paint left over, and the weather is improving, so I am just going to empty out the garage and roll the whole thing again.

Let’s pray that this works !

August’s Pins

The theme for my August pins is Preparedness.

With Tropical Storm Isaac causing rain and wind today, here in Florida, I thought it would be very appropriate to share my pins on how to be ready for an emergency situation.

Garage Makeover

The Capt.’s birthday is coming up next week and we usually don’t buy each other gifts anymore, but, since he bought me a new iPad for my birthday, I wanted to return the favor.

Every time we go to one of those home improvement stores, he drools over the big tool boxes and nice work benches. The problem is, we just don’t have much room in our garage for all of those things.

Our garage serves as a storage area and laundry room as well as his work station. Ever since we moved here, we have had to store all of the stuff that used to be in our basement in Massachusetts in the garage.

After doing a little measuring and a lot of compromising, we came up with a plan that will give the Capt. a new work station, organize the storage area more efficiently and better define my laundry area.

So, I bought the Capt. 2 workbenches and a rolling tool box for his birthday.

This generous gift on my part created a major project that has us somewhat over whelmed.

You see, we couldn’t just put these shiny new things into a dingy dirty area. Thats right, we bought special paint to redo the garage floor along with a different color paint to define my laundry area.

Now we have to take all of the stuff off of the walls and also move everything out of the garage so that the floors and walls can get painted. All of this has to get done before the Capt. can even begin to assemble and organize his new birthday stuff!

In his haste to get started, he disassembled his work station before I even had a chance to take a picture of it for a before and after comparison.

So, here is what our garage looks like now:

Stopping The Rust Rings

I leave my shaving cream in the shower so that it is handy when I need to shave my legs but the metal ring around the bottom of the can leaves a rust stain on my tile.

I wonder why , knowing it will be near water, they make a container that would rust in the first place?

20120822-084739.jpg

20120822-084755.jpg

How many of you have this same problem?

I have come up with a simple solution that I plan to use from now on, or at least until they can come up with a shaving cream can that doesn’t rust.

I cut the bottom off of a small water bottle to make a cup.

20120822-085417.jpg

I placed the shaving cream can in the cup.

20120822-085629.jpg

The fit wasn’t perfect and I was afraid that water would get inside the cup and cause it to fall off so I placed a rubber band around the top of the cup to form a seal and to hold it tightly onto the shaving cream can.

20120822-085836.jpg

Walla, no more rusting!

20120822-090009.jpg

I wonder why the manufacturers can’t put plastic or rubber on the bottom of the cans?

Now, I must go on Pinterst and find a way to remove the old rust spots.

Any suggestions?

Weight Loss Goals

I have mentioned in several posts that we are going on a cruise in January ( I promise to give more details soon).

Now that summer is coming to an end, I am starting to get serious about the goal I set for myself many months ago to be at a certain weight by the time we board the ship. I said that I wanted to be 25 pounds lighter and that means that I still have 15 pounds to lose.

20120820-095244.jpg

It was difficult to stay on track with eating right and exercising regularly when we had so much company this summer, but now that there will be no more guests visiting this year, I am hopeful that I can meet my goal.

I know I have my work cut out for me because, even though we won’t be entertaining any visitors for the rest of the year, we still have all of the holidays coming up and a trip planned to New England for Halloween.

My plan is to try and eat healthy and exercise regularly from now on and then if I don’t have willpower on our trip or on the holidays, hopefully it won’t hurt me too much.

That reminds me of a great sign I saw that said “I just ate my willpower!”

I went looking on Pinterst for inspiration and in the process I found this funny card that I just had to share with you.

Window Seat

One of the first posts I did was a tour of my home. In the den Marley’s room, The Capt. made a wonderful window seat that turns into a hide-a-bed.
You can take that tour here.

I told you that I would be posting how he made the window seat at a later date, so here it is!

When we bought our house, the previous owners left their couch. It wasn’t my style or color but it was a good quality Ethan Allen couch that had the most comfortable hide-a-bed in it. It is a queen size mattress with springs and thick enough that you don’t feel the bar across the middle.

We decided to take the couch apart and just keep the bed and cushions. I knew just what I wanted to do with them.

In our den, we have a big window looking out to the front yard and I wanted to put a window seat there.

We searched for some shelves to go on either side of the window and we found the perfect ones on clearance at Lowes.

The Capt. built a box out of MDS to hold the hide-a-bed frame and we painted it to match the color of the shelves.

20120817-090025.jpg

20120817-090042.jpg

I wanted this room to be kind of retro, so I bought some designer fabric on Ebay to cover the old couch cushions.

20120817-091158.jpg

This is one of my favorite rooms in the house and we get so many complements on our window seat. I love the fact that this room becomes an extra bedroom when we have a house full of company.

20120817-091305.jpg

20120817-091322.jpg

And since we have had Marley, he has taken over this room. I just put a cushion on the back of the bench and it is a perfect window seat for him as well. He lays there and looks out the window to see what is going on.

20120817-091454.jpg

20120817-091510.jpg

He doesn’t even have to give up his window seat when the bed is opened.

20120817-091701.jpg

That’s how I recycle!

Have a blessed weekend.

Funny Church Signs

I was wondering if you have seen any funny church signs lately?

At my Bible Study group, we often talk about a funny church sign that we saw somewhere.

I remember seeing one, as a teenager, that has stuck with me all of these years.

It said : Seven days without Jesus makes one weak.

So for today, I thought it would be fun to post some funny church signs that I have pinned on Pinterest.

Update On My Southwest Flights

After several phone calls and diligently checking my credit card statement, I think that everything is finally straightened out.

20120813-092951.jpg

If you haven’t read how the Southwest Airlines glitch effected me, you can check it out here.

I called the airline to tell them that all of the flights have been cancelled but I still had a charge for one of them on my credit card. They were very helpful and reinstated my flights. The fare had changed, but they honored the original fare that I had booked. They wanted me to give them my credit card again, but I told them that I didn’t want to do that because I already have a charge for the flights. They said that charge will be refunded because the flights were cancelled, but until that happens, I was not going to let them add any new charges.

Southwest Airlines understood and were very good about working with me. They gave me a confirmation number and said that after my credit card gets straighten out, to call back and they will reissue the tickets for me.

I checked my statement the next day to see if that charge had been refunded yet, and to my dismay, all 24 charges were back.
That’s right , 24 charges of $439.20 for a grand total of $ 10,540.80.

I immediately called my credit card company, again, and they were very helpful in eliminating these charges. The rep said to wait 24 hours for the charges to be removed from my statement.

I checked back in 24 hours and all of the pending charges had been posted but then it showed a refund. The thing is, the original amount of $439.20 was for 2 tickets, me and the Capt., but the refund was done for each individual ticket.
So my statement shows a credit of $219.60 48 times!

The rep that had been working with me to remove these charges called me to confirm that my statement will reflect the refund and everything should be straightened out.

Finally, I am ready to call Southwest and have them reissue the tickets.

I know that this has been an inconvenience, but it was not anything that was done deliberately. As a matter of fact, Southwest was just trying to do something nice for their loyal customers and I hope that this doesn’t sway them from doing something nice in the future.

And I got a little surprise when I checked my email the other day!

Southwest Airlines sent an apology, saying they were sorry for any inconvenience they had caused us along with a $150.00 travel voucher to be used towards future tickets.

Thank you Southwest!

Off To The Beach

Well, my grandson arrived safely yesterday. He flew by himself and did great, he is getting to be so grown up for being 11 ( well, he will be 11 at the end of this month).

Anyway, I am playing hooky today! The Capt. took the day off and we are going to the beach.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
